Mariya Ahmed Didi, the spokesperson of the Joint Opposition presidential candidate, has said that an opposition-led government will allow the police service to regain public trust and bring back dignity back to the police uniform.

Speaking at a campaign event on Friday night, Mariya said that it was shameful that the police accuses people of criminal behavior while selectively ignoring the same act committed by other individuals.

She said that their actions makes the public suspicious of the police service but that a government led by the opposition coalition will allow a better working environment that would help them regain their lost trust.

Mariya also criticized the authorities for towing the opposition’s pickup truck that was driving around capital city Male’ with megaphones to promote Friday’s event. She said that every party should be able to carry out their campaigns unobstructed and invited the public to join the Joint Opposition’s campaign event on Saturday night.

North-Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla, Male’ City Mayor Shifa Mohamed, and many members of the public had joined the opposition’s event on Friday.
