Ahmed Sameer, president of the local government council of Kamadhoo island in Baa atoll, has been arrested in a drug operation.

A resident of the island told RaajjeMV, under the condition of anonymity, that Sameer was arrested at 9:00pm on Friday.

The source said police officers arrested Sameer from the ferry terminal in Hulhumalé after having seen him ‘discard’ a rubber packet.

A comment from the police could not be obtained at the time of publishing.

Sameer took office last year and ran as a member of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.
