A delegation from Adhaalath Party (AP) have met former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Musa Hitam on Tuesday morning.
The meeting in Malaysia saw discussions about the political turmoil in the Maldives.
The AP delegation discussed some of the challenges political parties face in their campaign as well as the oppression faced by political leaders. The also discussed ways to make the September election a free, fair and transparent one.
RaajjeMV understands that AP officials had also discussed the likelihood of Maldives re-joining the commonwealth if the opposition Presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih were to win the election.
The Adhaalath Party delegation comprised of Ali Thalib and Ismail Zaki and was led by former Maldivian ambassador to Malaysia, Mohamed Zaki.
Deputy PM Hitam said that Maldives always remained a close ally and that he desires to see the friendship between both countries develop further. Hitam also conveyed his sincere greetings to the people of Maldives.

While it will be a year in September since Maldives left the commonwealth. The opposition coalition’s Presidential hopeful Solih has also pledged to re-join the commonwealth during his tenure.
Hitam, who previously served as Chairman of the commonwealth parliamentary association, was a delegate to the Maldives from 2005 to 2008, and played an important role in reform efforts to bring a solution to the political unrest in the country at the time.
