The opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will defeat incumbent President Abdulla Yameen by such a large margin that he will never build up the courage to contest in another Presidential Election, says Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed.
Speaking at the gathering held by the Joint Opposition in Sri Lanka, Dr. Hussain stated that citizens brought the country to the situation it currently is in by electing President Yameen in the 2013 Presidential Election, going on to say that the future of the nation is in the hands of the citizens.
As such, JP’s Deputy Leader said that citizens need to vote for candidate number “2” in the approaching September ballots to bring a change.
“I appeal on all supporters of Jumhooree Party to cast their votes for opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih” said Dr. Hussain.
Highlighting that the approaching election is an extraordinary one, Dr. Hussain said that President Yameen, who is vying for re-election, is organizing the election. As such, it is rather bizarre that the President, who is also a candidate, is seen influencing procedures of the Elections Commission.
However, Dr. Hussain said that President Yameen is up against the citizens and that the citizens will defeat him by such a margin that “he will never build up the courage to ever contest in another election”.
Moreover, the Deputy Leader confidently added that in the near future, supporters of the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives will also be joining the opposition coalition.
Solih, MDP’s Parliamentary Group leader and long-standing Parliamentarian, travelled to Sri Lanka to meet Maldivian residents along with former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Solih is being accompanied by MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef, MDP’s Vice President Mohamed Shifaz, Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed, Adhaalath Party’s Deputy Leader Ali Zahir, and Aminath Nadhira, who is a close associate of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Solih and Nasheed began meeting with Maldivians in Sri Lanka on Monday afternoon at a open campaign event at Berjaya Hotel in Colombo.
