Elections Commission (EC) has revealed the amount of re-registration applications they have received.
At a press conference on Sunday, EC President Ahmed Shareef said that they have received 95,639 applications, out of which 78,964 were approved for re-registration.
Shareef did not specify the issue with the 16,675 applications.
He also said that they will place 472 ballot boxes in this year’s presidential election. A total of 122 boxes will be placed in Male’, 55 for Male’ residents and 67 for atoll residents, he added.
35 boxes are to be placed in resorts, four in prisons, and five outside of the country.
3,506 monitors and 2,624 observers will be present in the election and EC has hired 3,895 officials to be at polling stations.
