President's Office has on Saturday has opened opportunities for interested individuals to run for a seat at the Elections Commission (EC).
Interested parties that meet the requirements are to send in their applications before 10am on 19th July.
While the Commission is to comprise of at least five members including its president, the Constitution states that the "President shall appoint to the Elections Commission those persons approved by a majority of the People’s Majlis from the names submitted to the People’s Majlis as provided for in the statute governing the Elections Commission".
Additionally, as per the Elections Commission Act, there are eight requirements of a member filling the seat of the Commission; including being a Maldivian, Muslim, 25 years of age and not a member of any political parties
According to the President's Office, the criteria to be met by applicants have since been published on the Government Gazette.
