Officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) quelled a fire that caused severe damage to an over-water bungalow in Vommuli Resort in Dhaalu atoll.

Captain Ibrahim Azim, the MNDF’s media official, said that the fire was reported at about 9:05am on Saturday. The fire was controlled by 10:00am.

The MNDF said that while the fire did not raze the property, it has caused seemingly severe damage to its structure. The extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained.

The St Regis resort told RaajjeMV that their staff had attempted to quell the fire as well, which was attested to by Captain Azim who said resort staff had used on-property fire extinguishers.
