Maldives Police Service (MPS) has recovered a large amount of cash stolen from a resort room on January 4.
The cash has since been handed over to the owner, said the police.
Noting that it received a report of the theft on January 4, police revealed that 12,500 Dinars, 600 Euros and USD 49 had been stolen from the room. In addition, an iPad was stolen from the room as well.
Police said that through its investigation, the stolen cash was found hidden in two locations of the resort; an empty guest room and the garden.
While a 33-year-old Indian citizen was taken into custody in relation to the theft, he has since been released after taking the necessary statements for the investigation.
Himmafushi Police Station is investigating the matter.
