National Volley Team flies to Thailand for AVC Central Zone Championship preparations

Maldives National Volley Team has flown off to Thailand a week before the commencing of Bangladesh;s Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC)'s Central Zone Senior Men's Volleyball Championship that is to kick off on the 19th of April.

The team departed earlir to conduct a training camp before the tournament kicks off.

The championship is to be held from the 19th till the 26th of April in Thailand.

Ahmed 'Longey' Abdul Kareem was appointed at this season's Team Captain while Ali 'Huzantey' Huzam was appointed as Vice Captain.

Team Captain Ahmed has been continually playing for the national team since the beginning of 2004.

This season's squad comprises of Hussain 'Bulhike' Visham, Ali 'Maa'te' Mauroof, Adam Naseem, Ahmed Shimau, Shuaib Abdul Latheef, Adam Fairooz, Hassan Nimal, Mohamed Mimraah Hassan, Mohamed Naeem, Javaam Ali and Ahmed Anil.

Shuaib, Mimraah, Shimau and Naeem are first time players of the team.

Professional players of the team that are not part of this tournament's squad include Ishan 'Batis' Ibrahim, Ashfag 'Akkalhey' Adam, Ahmed Ahusan and Mohamed Shaain. 

Ishan Ibrahim will not be participating in this tournament as he had retired.

Maldives team will be coached by Mohamed 'Kaattey' Saajid in this year's AVC Central Zone Senior Men's Volleyball Championship.
