Dhivehi Sifainge Club beat Sealife Sports Club in a penalty shoot-out on Sunday, to become the champions of Football Association of Maldives (FAM)’s Third Division Football Tournament.
While the match ended with a 1-1 draw, Dhivehi Sifainge Club took the game 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out.
Both teams had multiple opportunities to score in the first half of the game, but failed to secure a lead.
The teams came out strong in the second half, and Dhivehi Sifainge Club took the lead at the 80th minute, with a goal by Nadheef Ibrahim. However, three minutes before the referee’s whistle, Sealife equalized the game with a goal by Adeyanju Rasheed.
Both teams were unable to score goals in the extra minutes, sending the game to penalties.
Hussain Fawaz, Nadheef Ibrahim and Ali Ihsan scored the penalties for Dhivehi Sifainge Club, while Sealife’s two penalties were scored by Mohamed Ayaz and Simpson Keith.
Third Division Football Tournament’s best goalkeeper was awarded to Buru Sports Club’s Abdulla Arsham while Sealife’s Adeyanju Rasheed was awarded the best player of the tournament.
