Pakistani musician Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Indian singer Amrik Singh are to perform at the New Year’s Eve music show, organized by the government and to be held in capital city Malé.
The Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation, established by incumbent President Abdulla Yameen just last year, is organizing the show and has yet to announce a date for the arrival of these Bollywood stars.
As of yet, the show will be held at the ‘Alimas Carnival’ in Henveiru of capital city Malé on the evening of December 31st.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Amrik Singh, although known popularly by his stage name Mika Singh, are both singers whose music have appeared in multiple Bollywood movies in the last decade.
Rahat, born to a notable family of musicians in Pakistan’s Punjab region, is also multi-instrumentalist and his music has received acclaim due to frequent tributes to Islam. The 43-year-old has been in the Pakistani music industry since 1985.
He has won over 20 awards for his singing and appearances of his music in film. He has won an IIFA, a Filmfare award, multiple form the UK Asian Music Awards, and been tapped for an International Pakistan Prestige Awards this year.
Mika first became known after he sang the title track for 1998 movie named ‘Saawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag’, and continues to be acclaimed for his ‘hip-pop’ – a combination of rap music and pop – and cultural style – with his shows featuring displays of traditional Indian ‘Banghra’ dances.
He has achieved notoriety through his appearance in films, controversial run-ins with the law, and performing in international venues.
