A trip to the Maldives was auctioned off at this year’s amfAR Gala.
A week in the Maldives for 60 people was auctioned for USD 700,000 at the Gala, where over USD 20 million was raised for AIDS research and services, adding to the hefty total of USD 190 million it has collected since beginning in 1993.
A-listers such as David Beckham, Will Smith, Nicki Minaj, Diana Ross, Leonardo Dicaprio, Tobey Maguire, Niclole Kidman, Eva Longoria, etc, participated in the auction.
In addition to a private football match and dinner with Beckham was personally auctioned by him for USD 350,000, the auction also included a 1958 Jaguar signed by Dicaprio as well as a chance to meet the Dalai Lama on a trip to India.
amfAR, the foundation for AID’s research, is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of AIDS-related public policy. The Gala is held after the Cannes Film Festival.
