The association of drivers has called on the government to implement the death penalty on those behind the murder of taxi driver Gasim Hassan.
Having strictly condemned the act, the taxi drivers’ association called on the relevant authorities and institutions to punish them duly, as stated in Islamic law.
The 59-year-old taxi driver was attacked and killed in capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumalé on Wednesday night. He was stabbed to death by gang members.
While authorities are seeking out the culprits, thus far, no arrests have been made in connection to the murder.
The police service’s Serious Crime Department of Investigation is carrying out investigations into the case.
Police also urged the public to come forth with any information, if attained.
