Merchants at Malé local market asked to clear their stalls

The Housing Ministry said that its agreement with them has expired

Merchants have been given a three-day period to meet the demand

The government has asked merchants at the local market area in capital city Malé to vacate their stalls.

A letter from the Housing Ministry, dated to Sunday, gave merchants a period of three days to clear the area.

The Housing Ministry’s letter said that the contract made with the merchants at the market expired on November 13th.

A number of merchants on Sunday expressed concern over the decision, and said that the ministry’s actions currently are unjust.

Merchants who do not clear stalls of their volition will have it cleared by the ministry’s officials, the letter also said.
